How Posts are Organized
Articles and tutorials on this blog are organized into categories, so it’s easier for you to find what you want. Here’s what each one contains:
- Informative articles: These are full of knowledge that will be useful to you in your creating-and-making adventures, and also make you sound super-well-informed during conversations. They may not be hands-on projects as such, but many of these will be pre-requisites to tacking many of the tutorials.
- Beginner DIY: These are tutorials for people who are just starting out in sewing and making. They cover everything from absolute basics (like the tools you need before you can even start) to projects anyone can complete with a little time and attention. Most of these only require very minimal equipment.
- Intermediate DIY: These contain more complex projects for people with some sewing experience and equipment who want to branch out. We’ll be making some challenging but not-too-difficult items that you’d actually want to wear or gift, like hooded capes and nifty origami face masks, and start learning fitting and patternmaking skills.
- Advanced DIY: If you’re already a confident sewist that wants to learn more specialized skills, these are for you. Here’s where we’ll cover things like corsetry, making binders, pattern manipulation for design, creating your own custom sloper, and advanced fitting.
- Adventure Stories with Aunt Kitty: These are stories of the weird and whacky projects that Aunt Kitty just can’t stop trying. Some are sewing-related, and others aren’t. Whether it’s making a full-body immobilization harness for kinky purposes or making a loaf of bread from living grain to finished toast, hilarity often ensues. And sometimes, cheese.
Aunt Kitty’s Rating System
Each DIY project or tutorial is ranked according to the following:
- Materials: How easy or hard are the materials to find, and how much will it cost?
- Equipment: How much special tools and machinery, if any, do you need to complete the project?
- Effort: How much work will it take?
- Difficulty: How hard is it to do? This is not quite the same thing as effort. Some things are easy but take loads of work, and other things take skill but not too much effort!
